Have you ever heard of a tsunami (soo-NAH-mee)? Tsunamis are never easy to go through and will always cause water damage to everything you own. In fact, a great amount of properties destroyed by water damage are caused by tsunamis.
A tsunami is a series of ocean waves that are traveling at long lengths and are generally generated by earthquakes that come about around the ocean floor. Volcanic eruptions that happen under water and landsides are also known to cause tsunamis. Not only are tsunamis known for causing water damage to everything you own but they also take your life. For example in the years 1992 and 1993 there were over two thousand individuals killed by tsunamis that happened in Japan, Nicaragua and Indonesia. Tsunamis can be anywhere from ten to twenty feet high and are known for being very destructive to everything and everyone that is in the way.
When it comes to the duration of the flood that is being caused by the tsunami this can vary from a couple of hours for lands that are well drained to a couple of days and maybe even weeks for areas that do not have good drained fields. This means, when a tsunami happens, you may not be able to look at the water damage that has happened to your property until a couple of weeks and this may not be a good thing. If you cannot get to your items on time, then you may not be able to save those important documents from water damage. However, if you are able to get to your house in a couple of hours after a tsunami has taken place, you may be able to go through your stuff and save a few things by having this document dried.
Also, the duration of the flood can depend on the geographical configuration where the tsunami took place. If your area is under the sea, river or lake level, then it can take a couple of months to drain the area out. How do they drain the area out after a tsunami or other type of flood? They drain the area out by using pumps and it is a hard job and a long process. Water damage that is caused by a tsunami can vary from minor damage to land permanently lost to the sea. With minor damage, this will be able to return back to normal and you will not have any interventions. If you have been through a tsunami, the best thing for you to do would be to stay away from your property until the water has went down. Many individuals try to get back to their property after a tsunami and sadly they do not make it there. If you get warning of a tsunami, then you, your family and your pets should immediately seek shelter.
